What is Yellow Fever?

Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily in tropical regions of Africa and South America. The virus can cause a spectrum of symptoms, from mild fever to severe liver and kidney damage, often leading to jaundice, giving the disease its name. The best protection you can secure against this disease is pre-travel prevention – a Yellow Fever vaccination is the most effective preventive measure.

Who Needs a Yellow Fever Vaccination?

You may need a Yellow Fever inoculation if:

  • You are travelling to a country where Yellow Fever is a known health risk.
  • The country you are travelling to requires proof of vaccination for legal entry.

Please bear in mind, that you will need to receive your Yellow Fever vaccination at least 10 days before you travel.

Signs and Symptoms of Yellow Fever

Yellow fever manifests with flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, and muscle aches. As the disease progresses, more severe symptoms may appear, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, vomiting, and bleeding. In severe cases, organ failure can occur, posing a significant health threat.

Due to these significant health risks, a pre-travel Yellow Fever vaccination is a necessary precaution to safeguard your health and well-being.
