Frequently Asked Questions

What is chickenpox?

Chickenpox, or Varicella) is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It primarily affects children and presents with an itchy rash, red spots, and fluid-filled blisters. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, and loss of appetite. The disease spreads through direct contact with an infected person or their respiratory droplets. A vaccine is available and effective in preventing chickenpox or reducing its severity.

Can you get chickenpox more than once?

Typically, chickenpox occurs only once in a person’s lifetime due to the immunity developed after the initial infection. However, the varicella-zoster virus can remain dormant and later reactivate as shingles, a different condition. Rarely, a second bout of chickenpox can occur, usually in those with weakened immune systems.

Why book a private chickenpox vaccination?

Booking a private chickenpox vaccination with Travel Health ensures timely access to the vaccine, reducing the risk of severe illness and complications. We provide total flexibility in scheduling an appointment at a time that suits you – in many cases, we also offer same-day appointments. This may be more convenient, especially during busy periods or in areas with limited public vaccination availability.

Will I experience any side effects from a chickenpox vaccine?

The chickenpox vaccine is safe and effective with only minor side effects in rare cases. It is possible that you may feel slight soreness or tenderness at the site of the injection, however most patients do not notice any negative symptoms.
