What is the MenACWY vaccine?

The Meningitis ACWY vaccine, also called the MenACWY vaccine, is designed to protect against meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning.) It requires one dose.

Are there any side effects of the MenACWY vaccine?

There are usually no side effects from this vaccine. However in some cases, there may be mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site, redness, bruising or itching. Some rarer side effects include dizziness, nausea, fatigue or headaches, however these are usually mild and will subside after a few days. Very rarely, some people may experience more severe side effects, but this is very uncommon.

Who should receive the MenACWY vaccine?

You should receive the meningitis ACWY vaccine if you are traveling to risk-prone areas or fall into an at-risk group. This can include teenagers and young adults, first-year university students, or adults who may be at risk of meningitis or septicaemia in their workplace.
